201-3140 Plated Hole Repair Kit
Description
This kit includes all the tools and materials you need to repair damaged plated through holes in circuit boards.

The kit includes a eight packages of various eyelet sizes to handle a wide range of common plated through hole repairs, carbide ball mills for drilling, and setting tools to properly form the eyelets in place.

Eyelet Selection Criteria
ID - Inside Diameter.003" - .020" greater than the component lead diameter.
OD - Outside DiameterThe clearance hole in the circuit board should be .001" - .005" greater than the outside diameter.
LUF - Length Under FlangeThe length of the flange should be .020" - .035" greater than the thickness of the circuit board.
FD - Flange DiameterThe flange diameter should be small enough to prevent interference with adjacent pads or circuits.

Plated Hole Repair - Hand Tool Method
  1. Eyelet Flaring
    Figure 1.
    Select an Eyelet with the proper flange, metal and and size required for the application.
  2. CAUTION: Use caution when working on circuit board with inner layers.
  3. Insert the cone shaped end of 115-3120 Setting Tool into 115-3122 Tool Base.
  4. Insert 115-3120 Setting Tool into 115-3139 Tool Grip with the cone shaped end out.
  5. If needed, drill out the plated hole removing all the plating. The drilled hole should be .001" - .005" larger than the eyelet outside diameter.
  6. Eyelet Setting
    Figure 2.
    Insert the Eyelet into the circuit board. A small piece of tape may be used to keep the Eyelet from falling out when the circuit board if flipped over.
  7. Flip the circuit board over and center the Eyelet on top of the 115-3120 Setting Tool installed in the 115-3122 Tool Base. Hold the circuit board steady.
  8. Insert the tip of the 115-3120 Setting Tool mounted in the 115-3139 Tool Grip into the barrel of the Eyelet.
  9. Apply a light downward force using the 115-3120 Setting Tool and 115-3139 Tool Grip moving the in a circular cone pattern to flare the Eyelet barrel. (See Figure 1.)
  10. Flip the 115-3120 Setting Tool around in the 115-3139 Tool Grip and apply firm pressure to flat set the Eyelet. (See Figure 2.)
